David Almond writes:

The book called Puppet is like a puppet itself. I sat down at my desk one day, opened my notebook, switched on my computer and started to write. I was like Silvester at his workbench in his attic. He picks up fragments of ancient puppet – legs and arms and strange heads – and puts them together and wonders what on earth he’s making. He has no idea that his new puppet will walk and talk and fall in love with bread and jam. And he is amazed – and delighted – when it does…
